University of Tirana (UNITIR)

The University of Tirana was founded in 1957 and it is the first university established in the Republic of Albania. It is comprised by 6 Faculties, one of which is the Faculty of Social Sciences with the Department of Political Sciences in it. The University of Tirana is the biggest Public University in the country, being the most attractive for the Albanian students and for Foreign Researchers. Approximately 40 thousand students study in the three levels of education, in full-time and part-time modes. The University of Tirana has organized all study programs (BA, MA, PhD) it offers according to the Bologna process, with full implementation of ECTS. The University of Tirana has considerable experience in EU projects such as Erasmus, Socrates, Leonardo, Tempus and others.

Faculty of Social Sciences/ Department of Political Sciences

The Department of Political Science is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences, in the University of Tirana and was founded in 2000. The department is composed by 12 full time members and several part time lectures. We offer a BA program in Political Sciences and two Master Programs and a Doctoral Program in Political Science. Approximately 300 students study in the various programs offered by the department. We offer a Bachelor Program in Political Sciences, 1 master Degree in Regional Studies (2 years) and 1 Master Degree in Politics and Government (1 year) plus a PhD program in various subareas of political studies.

The department is engaged in research in several areas of the political science discipline as international relations, political sociology, political institution and processes, political thought, Albanian institution and processes, Eu integration.

Klejd Këlliçi, is an associated professor in the Univeristy of Tirana. He holds a degree of B.A. in Political Science from the University of Turin, the Master degree in ‘European and Global Affairs’ from the Catholic University of Sacred Heart in Milan. In 2011 he received his Ph.D. in Comparative Politics and Institutions from the University of Bari. Mr. Këlliçi has started teaching Political Science in 2006 in the University of Our Lady of Good Council in Tirana covering later several positions in private and public universities in Albania. Currently he is a lecturer of Comparative Politics and Democratic Theories in the University of Tirana.

 

Merita Xhumari  (Vaso)

She is a Professor of Social and Employment Policy for graduate and post-graduate programs in Sociology, Political Sciences and Social Work at the Department of Political Sciences, University of Tirana. She has finished a Master in European Social Security on June 2002 at the Faculty of Law, Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, Finalised with a comparative study on “Social Protection Systems in Albania and Macedonia”. At the Faculty of Social Sciences, Tirana University she has obtained a PhD in SOCIOLOGY, based on presenting a thesis: “Social Policy Institutions during the post-communist transition in Albania”, after a Bachelor Diploma in Political Sciences after four regular university studies at the Faculty of Political Sciences and Law in 1983.

Suela Hana is a sociologist with extensive professional and academic skills in the field of social sciences. For a period of 5 years she has worked in the field of psycho-social treatment for victims of trafficking, which are used for sexual exploitation. Since 2010, Suela Hana works as an assistant of the Department of Political Science, University of Tirana.

Suela received her Diploma of Social Sciences in Sociology at Tirana University, and a Second Master’s Level “Search in education”, at Tirana University. At the same time, it continues doctoral studies at this department, about “Social policies for the reintegration of victims of trafficking in Albania”.

Phd in Geopolitics at the University of Pisa, Italy on 2011. She has been the Head of Department of Political Sciences at the Faculty of Social Sciences during 2014-2015. From September 2011 she is Chief Editor of the Scientific Journal “Politikja”, published from the Department of Political Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Tirana. From October 2008 she is a Full time Lecturer at the Public University of Tirana, Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Political Studies as Lecturer of the courses: Geopolitics, Theories of Regional Relations and Security, New Social Movements and Civil Society, The New Political Movements, Politics and Society in the Southern- Eastern Europe, The Decision Making Theories.
